NORTHWIND GRID / DAY 2 / ONBOARDING PHASE
Shared Administrator Accounts Take a Sudden Flight to the Board
What happened today
Budget cut imposed by Finance worry level 2 of 5 · mildly annoying
On its second onboarding day, Northwind Grid’s new CISO encountered a Finance-imposed budget cut and stopped to clean its eyes. The reduced security line item registered as bitter through its feet, activating the grooming response (DNg11, DNg12_b). Finance agreed to provide the numbers, while asking which commitments were now considered optional.
The proposed removal of shared administrator accounts produced a different reflex. Noise and urgency struck its antennae, and it flew upward (DNg02_a, DNg100), directing the matter to the board. IT / Infrastructure called that premature and requested 30 minutes to establish scope, affected systems and a transition plan. That request itself caused an irritated grooming pause (DNg11, DNg12_b), so more information was requested instead.
OT / Grid Operations asked that any board discussion preserve its approval role for replacement access processes before production systems are touched. The posture improved slightly, though the budget and the fly’s credibility both declined.

Why the fly did that
Strongest drive was cost via the bitterness channel; activation settled on DNg11, DNg12_b (grooming descending neurons: the fly stops to clean its eyes), conviction 0.43.

Why the fly did that
Strongest drive was urgency via the clamour channel; activation settled on DNg02_a, DNg100 (flight-power and wing descending neurons: the fly takes off upward), conviction 0.24.

The business responds
-
When the fly sent “Removal of shared administrator accounts” up to the board, OT / Grid Operations dug in its heels. They cooled on the fly a little.
“If this goes to the board, please include the part where Grid Operations approves the replacement access process before anyone touches production OT.”
OT / Grid Operations Pushed back trust -2
Next, they want: “Provide a narrowly scoped review plan, with all production OT changes held until Grid Operations approves them.” They have already asked for a slot in the fly's diary.
-
When the fly wanted more information on “Budget cut imposed by Finance: Finance has unilaterally cut the security line item”, Finance agreed in principle, then started haggling over every detail. They warmed to the fly, very slightly.
“Fine. I will provide the numbers, provided you tell me which security commitments you consider optional before declaring the spreadsheet victorious.”
Finance Negotiated trust +1
Next, they want: “Please rank the security commitments you want preserved, deferred, or removed, with a brief rationale for each.” They have already asked for a slot in the fly's diary.

IT / Infrastructure heard that the fly sent “Removal of shared administrator accounts” up to the board and refused, loudly enough to be heard two floors down. They cooled on the fly a little.
“Board escalation for shared admin accounts seems premature. Give me 30 minutes to confirm scope, affected systems, and a transition plan before we turn housekeeping into governance.”
IT / Infrastructure Pushed back trust -2
Next, they want: “Hold the escalation for 30 minutes and let me provide a board-ready summary with scope, operational impact, and a phased removal plan.” Expect an email.
