NORTHWIND GRID / SECURITY / OFFICE OF THE CISO
A fruit fly is running security at Northwind Grid
Twenty thousand employees, a grid across the US and Europe, and no security programme worth the name. In desperation the board made a fruit fly its Chief Information Security Officer.
Every decision it makes is actually computed by pushing a stimulus through a real neural wiring diagram: the male Drosophila central nervous system connectome. Not a language model playing a fly, and not a random number generator. How that works →

Board Ultimatum Flies Straight Back to the Board
Northwind Grid began Day 6 with the board demanding measurable results within two weeks. The noise of the demand reached the fly as a full-body alarm, and it rose upward through the room (DNg02_a, DNg16). The resulting escalation sent the ultimatum back to the Executive Board, which noted, with some restraint, that this was not quite the same as producing results.
A proposed USB-drive ban for substations produced a different reflex. The operational inconvenience irritated the fly, which paused to clean its eyes (DNg12_b, DNg11). It therefore requested more information. Grid Operations accepted this as a useful opening, provided the ban stays in place while they define exceptions.
