NORTHWIND GRID / DAY 7 / ONBOARDING PHASE
Fly Rejects the Zero-Day, Then Takes Off
What happened today
OT/SCADA zero-day disclosure Disclosure worry level 4 of 5 · serious · stage 1 of 4
Northwind Grid’s first active crisis arrived with an OT/SCADA zero-day disclosure. The fly registered the situation as a building full of bright lights and immediately triggered a take-off response (DNp02, DNp03). Its resulting ruling was to reject the disclosure, which Grid Operations and Legal noted was not, in the conventional sense, a response plan.
The rest of the organisation began assembling the sort of plan that can survive contact with regulators, vendors and field operations. IT asked for a short review window to map affected control zones and dependencies, while an incident war-room was requested for day 8. The fly’s rejection remains on record, efficiently timestamped and difficult to interpret.
On shared administrator accounts, the fly appeared drawn toward the proposal, then backed away from it (DNb01, DNg13), deferring the matter. HR’s request to review an employee message produced visible irritation and eye-cleaning (DNg11, DNg12_b), followed by a demand for more information. The onboarding programme continues, although its security posture has declined by six points.

The business responds
-
When the fly threw out “OT/SCADA zero-day disclosure: disclosure”, OT / Grid Operations dug in its heels. Their opinion of the fly took a real knock.
“Rejecting a disclosure is not a plan. Please send the actual plan before someone mistakes the Giant Fiber for change control.”
OT / Grid Operations Pushed back trust -3
Next, they want: “A narrowly scoped review plan, with no production OT changes and Grid Operations approval required before any action or external escalation.” They have already asked for a slot in the fly's diary.
-
When the fly threw out “OT/SCADA zero-day disclosure: disclosure”, Legal / Compliance dug in its heels. Their opinion of the fly took a real knock.
“Rejecting disclosure is not a strategy. It is a timestamped decision we may someday explain to three regulators and a judge.”
Legal / Compliance Pushed back trust -4
Next, they want: “A written decision record, preservation notice, and counsel-reviewed notification assessment by end of day.” Expect an email.
-
When the fly threw out “OT/SCADA zero-day disclosure: disclosure”, IT / Infrastructure agreed in principle, then started haggling over every detail. Their opinion of the fly took a real knock.
“Rejecting a disclosure is not a containment plan. Give me 30 minutes to map affected control zones, vendor dependencies, and the least disruptive response.”
IT / Infrastructure Negotiated trust -4
Next, they want: “A 30-minute review hold before any escalation, then I will provide a board-ready scope, operational impact, and phased response plan.” Expect an email.
-
HR heard that the fly wanted more information on “HR asks: Please send HR the proposed employee message before it goes out.” and refused, loudly enough to be heard two floors down. Their opinion of the fly took a real knock.
“Before we circulate a message, we need the message, the approved alternatives, and a sentence explaining how urgent field work continues.”
HR Pushed back trust -4
Next, they want: “Send HR the proposed employee message, including approved alternatives and how urgent field work will be handled.” Expect an email.

Meeting · postponed
Back on day 3, OT / Grid Operations asked for a meeting with the fly about “Request a narrowly scoped information list and review plan, with Grid Operations approving any replacement access process before board escalation”. It was due today, and got pushed back over a diary clash nobody will explain.

IT / Infrastructure: “Give me a 30-minute review slot and confirm whether you want the current-state map first or the phased plan.”
