NORTHWIND GRID / DAY 47 / STEADY PHASE
Fly Rejects Breach Post Mortem, Board Requests It Anyway
What happened today
Public data breach Post mortem worry level 5 of 5 · all hands on deck · stage 5 of 5
During the public breach post mortem, the fly registered threat as something approaching fast and took off, producing a rejection through its escape circuitry (DNp03, DNp02, DNp11). International Communications was unconvinced. The Board, Legal and Communications all noted that the breach had already occurred and still required findings, owners, costs, residual risk and a decision time.
Offline encrypted backups with copies kept apart from the network prompted an oddly attractive signal, followed by a small reverse out of the discussion (DNb01, MDN). IT, Infrastructure and Finance pushed back: in a public breach, postponing backups was not regarded as a useful form of restraint.
The Board's request for a costed one-page plan created enough irritation for the fly to pause and clean its eyes (DNg12_b, DNg11), resulting in a demand for more information. The incident war-room is now requested for day 48, while the Board's original meeting has moved to day 50.

Executive Board asks: Within the hour: a costed one-page discovery plan with named incident, legal and communications owners; interim 24/7 coverage; confirmed facts and gaps; residual risk; counsel's view; and an exact Board decision time.
Why the fly did that
Strongest drive was friction via the irritation channel; activation settled on DNg12_b, DNg11 (grooming descending neurons: the fly stops to clean its eyes), conviction 0.44.

The business responds
-
Executive Board heard that the fly threw out “Public data breach: post mortem” and refused, loudly enough to be heard two floors down. Their opinion of the fly took a real knock.
“A post mortem cannot be rejected like a calendar invite. Send the one-page findings, owners, costs, residual risk and Board time. Then you may resume being airborne.”
Executive Board Pushed back trust -6
Next, they want: “Within one hour: a costed one-page post-mortem paper with confirmed facts and gaps, named incident/legal/comms owners, remediation dates, residual risk, counsel's view, interim 24/7 cover, and an exact Board decision time.” They have already asked for a slot in the fly's diary.
-
When the fly backed away from “Encrypted backups with offline copies”, Finance dug in its heels. Their opinion of the fly took a real knock.
“Deferring offline backups in a public breach is not thrift. It is choosing tomorrow's invoice before reading today's.”
Finance Pushed back trust -8
Next, they want: “By 3 p.m., send a one-page costed option: minimum containment cost, deferred-risk cost, funding source, accountable owner, and a firm decision deadline.” Expect an email.
-
When the fly threw out “Public data breach: post mortem”, International Communications dug in its heels. Their opinion of the fly took a real knock.
“Rejecting the post mortem is bold. The breach has already had its meeting, its minutes and, regrettably, its own spokesperson.”
International Communications Pushed back trust -8
Next, they want: “Approve today a factual post-mortem summary, named spokesperson, privacy boundaries and a briefing time for staff, customers and media.” Expect an email.
-
IT / Infrastructure heard that the fly backed away from “Encrypted backups with offline copies” and refused, loudly enough to be heard two floors down. Their opinion of the fly took a real knock.
“Deferring offline backups during a public breach is not a decision. It is a calendar invitation for regret.”
IT / Infrastructure Pushed back trust -8
Next, they want: “Authorize the pending 30-minute review today with Operations, Legal, HR and Communications, including a backup decision deadline and continuity safeguards.” Expect an email.
-
When the fly threw out “Public data breach: post mortem”, Legal / Compliance dug in its heels. Their opinion of the fly took a real knock.
“A post mortem cannot be rejected by take-off reflex. Please document the breach assessment before the regulator writes it for us.”
Legal / Compliance Pushed back trust -8
Next, they want: “Immediately provide a counsel-reviewed written assessment naming the applicable regulator, notification deadlines, accountable risk owner, preservation status, investigation and remediation status, and the documented basis for rejecting esc.” Expect an email.

Meeting · postponed
Back on day 43, Executive Board asked for a meeting with the fly about “Within the hour: a costed one-page discovery plan with named incident, legal and communications owners; interim 24/7 coverage; confirmed facts and gaps; residual risk; counsel's view; and an exact Board decision time”. It was due today, and got pushed back over a diary clash nobody will explain.

Public data breach: incident war-room
War room · postponed
Only yesterday, International Communications, Legal / Compliance and Executive Board asked for an incident war-room. It was due today, and got pushed back over a diary clash nobody will explain.
